Dr. Thomas A. McNally is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon and dual fellowship-trained specialist with advanced expertise in both non-operative and operative spine care. Patients throughout the Chicago area seek out Dr. McNally for his experience, thoughtful approach, and commitment to helping patients return to active, productive lives.
Dr. McNally specializes in the treatment of complex spine conditions affecting the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. His areas of expertise include disc herniations, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, kyphosis, spondylolisthesis, sacroiliac joint pain, pediatric and adult spine conditions, and chronic back and neck pain.
Dr. McNally is known for taking a patient-first approach to spine care. He believes that treatment should begin with a clear understanding of each patient’s symptoms, goals, lifestyle, and concerns. Whenever possible, he emphasizes conservative treatment options such as physical therapy, medications, injections, and customized non-surgical care plans before considering surgery.
Advanced Spine Care | Minimally Invasive Techniques
When surgery is necessary, Dr. McNally utilizes the latest advances in spine care, including minimally invasive spine surgery, robotic-assisted techniques, and endoscopic ultra-minimally invasive procedures. These advanced techniques are designed to reduce tissue disruption, improve precision, minimize recovery time, and help patients return to normal activity as safely and efficiently as possible.
One common source of lower back pain is the sacroiliac, or SI, joint. The SI joint has been identified as a frequent pain generator in patients with chronic lower back pain and may also contribute to symptoms in patients who have previously undergone lumbar fusion. If the SI joint is confirmed as the source of pain, Dr. McNally works closely with each patient to develop a personalized treatment plan. This may include therapy, medications, injections, or, when appropriate, advanced minimally invasive procedures to reduce pain and improve function.
